The May 5 public hearing for the proposed rezoning across the street has been cancelled and
will be rescheduled for June 2 or July 7
- we will not know until the Gwinnett County Planning Commission publishes the upcoming agenda. Please make every effort to attend the meeting in person to help our HOA make a stand to protect the quality of life in Huntington West. Please stay tuned to hwhoa.org and the recently created HWHOA Facebook page for updates. Be sure to let all your friends and neighbors in Huntington West know about the new Facebook page so they can stay informed.
In the meantime, it is imperative that ALL homeowners in Huntington West write to our elected officials to let them know our opposition to most of the components of this proposed rezoning and eventual development. The developer is seeking a change in the zoning and reductions in the lots size, home size and buffers the Huntington West HOA fought for years ago to ensure any development approved across from Huntington West consisted of quality homes, equivalent to the standard and lot size in Huntington West. Every single homeowner in Huntington West must remain informed and involved relative to the negative impact this huge development (if approved) will most certainly
have on our quality of life, our schools and our traffic congestion. The proposed development includes small single family homes, rental townhouses, medium sized single family homes and even retail space. The proposed development stretches from the small church down Hwy 124 (near East Rock Quarry Road) al the way north on Hwy 124 to Spout Springs Road.
The Huntington West HOA will oppose the development based on the same concerns we have had for years: over-crowding in our schools, existing unoccupied retail spaces already in our area, unacceptable traffic on our corridor of Hwy 124 (still only one lane each way) and a certain stranglehold on the ability of Huntington West homeowners to exit our subdivision. We will do our best to insist that any development approved includes a traffic signal to assist our homeowners to be able to exit Huntington West safely. Rental property is limited in Huntington West to protect our own property values - we will oppose rental units in the proposed development. Make no mistake about it – this property will eventually be developed, but our homeowners must fight to ensure any approved development does not ruin the quality of life and property values we enjoy in Huntington West. Stay informed and get involved - we have been granted a postponement, so please use this time to write to all our elected officials (below) and to spread the word to your friends in neighboring subdivisions to enlist their support as well.
