The failure of Republic Services to collect our trash on schedule is not acceptable. We experienced a flurry of service failures in 2020 and early 2021, but Republic understandably attributed those failures to COVID-19 issues. So far this year, service has improved…..until last weekend. On November 5, the recycling was not picked up until Saturday, but at least it was picked up (albeit a day late). This past weekend, the recycling was picked up as scheduled on Friday (November 12), but as of this afternoon, the trash STILL sits on our streets on Monday.
Our Board filed a complaint on behalf of the neighborhood after the trash was still not collected on Saturday, but a representative from Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management responded today that actual property addresses were required to document a complaint. Gwinnett County requires our homeowners to pay for services from its designated hauler (Republic), included in our property taxes. Individual homeowners are not permitted to select our own hauler nor do we have the ability to hold them accountable for service failures - only Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management has the power of that option.
Please take the time to contact Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management to file a complaint under your own property address. Be sure to also lodge a complaint with Republic as well, although only Gwinnett County has the power to hold them accountable.
